Thyroid function in fetuses with chromosomal abnormalities.

چکیده
During treatment with inhaled beclomethasone the osteocalcin concentrations decreased, as has been observed in patients taking oral corticosteroids. This might imply that during beclomethasone treatment bone formation is depressed, which could result in osteoporosis in the long run. In our pilot study we investigated healthy subjects who used a high dose of beclomethasone for a short period of time. Whether osteocalcin concentrations are also lowered in asthmatic patients treated with lower doses ofbeclomethasone over the long term is unknown at present. This is not unlikely, however-firstly, because the resorption of the drug might be better in patients than in healthy subjects and, secondly, because osteocalcin remained depressed during long term treatment of patients with oral corticosteroids.4 Therefore a longitudinal study measuring serum osteocalcin concentrations and bone mineral density in newly diagnosed patients with asthma taking inhaled corticosteroids seems warranted.

Association of Fetal and Parental Chromosomal Abnormalities with Congenital Anomalies
Background & Aims: Chromosome abnormalities are a major cause of miscarriage and neonatal mortality. The present study aimed to determine the association of fetal and parents chromosomal abnormalities with congenital anomalies. Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in a tertiary referral center (Afzalipour Hospital) over 16 months period (2011-2012). The study groups consisted of 77 fe...
متن کاملSCREENING OF FETAL CHROMOSOMAL ABNORMAL ITIES BY OBSTETRIC ULTRASONOGRAPHY IN TEHRAN, IRAN
Early identification of fetuses with chromosomal abnormalities enables health care providers to form an appropriate management plan for each patient. The main objective of this study was to determine the role of ultrasonography in screening and identifying fetuses at risk for chromosomal abnormalities. A retrospective review of 6480 patients from the Obstetrics and Gynecology ward of Firou...
متن کاملRESULTS OF CYTOGENETIC ANALYSIS OF 521 AMNIOTIC FLUID CELL CULTURES (AMNIOCENTESES) PERFORMED IN IRAN
The indications and results of cytogenetic analysis of 521 amniotic cell cultures performed at 13-16 weeks of gestation were evaluated in this study. 507 fetuses (97.3%) were cytogenetically normal, 14 (2.7%) had unbalanced karyotypes, and 2 fetuses were found to have major abnormalities, one with anencephaly detected by measurement of alpha -fetoprotein levels in amniotic fluid and ultraso...
متن کاملOutcome of fetuses with soft markers: results of 3016 cases in Ahvaz city
Background: Although soft markers may be seen as normal variants, they are important due to their association with chromosomal and congenital abnormalities. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study was done on 3016 women who referred for perinatal care. Fetuses with any of soft markers including thickened nuchal fold (TNF), mild pyelectasis (MP), choroid plexus cyst (C...
متن کاملDetection of chromosomal abnormalities and the 22q11 microdeletion in fetuses with congenital heart defects.
Chromosomal abnormalities and the 22q11 microdeletion are implicated in congenital heart defects (CHDs). This study was designed to detect these abnormalities in fetuses and determine the effect of genetic factors on CHD etiology. Between January 2010 and December 2011, 113 fetuses with CHD treated at the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital were investigated, using chromosome karyotyping...
متن کاملSingle umbilical artery and its siding in the second trimester of pregnancy: relation to chromosomal defects.
OBJECTIVES To determine the possible association between single umbilical artery (SUA) in the second trimester of pregnancy and the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities. To determine whether the presence of chromosomal defects in fetuses with SUA is related to the side of the missing artery. METHODS Color flow imaging of the fetal pelvis was used to determine the number of umbilical arterie...
